The catalog of this exhibition in Barcelona deals with the history of the term ”rotten,” and with a project by Federico García Lorca and Dalí to published a book called “Los putrefactos” which never saw the light.

The background is Madrid in the 1920s and the Residencia de Estudiantes’ environment. It includes a chronology of “residentes” such as José Bello, Federico García Lorca, Salvador Dalí, and Luis Buñuel, and the activities at the Residencia from 1915 to 1928.

There is also an anthology of letters and writings by Dalí, Lorca and Buñuel in which they used the term ”rotten,” the comments from their fellow artists (Cansinos Asséns, Moreno Villa, Guillén, Alberti, Guillermo de Torre, Juan Ramón Jiménez), and excerpts from recent studies written about this project by Rafael Santos Torroella, Dawn Ades, Juan Antonio Ramírez, and Agustín Sánchez Vidal.
