Antonio Flórez, arquitecto (1877-1941)

[2002]

This catalog of the exhibition dedicated to Flórez is the first monograph on the architect who designed and built the Twin Pavilions and the Transatlantic building of the Residencia de Estudiantes between 1913 and 1915.

Curator Salvador Guerrero, José Ramón Alonso Pereira, Antón Capitel, María Victoria Flórez, Javier Mosteiro, Pedro Navascués, Gabriel Ruiz Cabrero and Carlos Sambricio wrote essays on Flórez career, linked to schools building, teaching and heritage conservation, his main activities during the first three decades of the twentieth century.

The volume includes a biographical profile, his writings, reminisces from family members, and contemporary publications. The illustrations, most of them unpublished, reproduce his drawings, such as those done during his fellowship at the Academia de España, in Rome, school buildings, gouaches for Cordoba mosque’s restoration, and his project for the Teatro Real in Madrid. A selection of historical and today’s photographs of the buildings are also included.
