Ernesto Halffter (1905-1989). Músico en dos tiempos

[1997]

Co-published with the Fundación Archivo Manuel de Falla

Ernesto Halffter, one of the leading contemporary musicians, prominent member of the so-called “Grupo de los Ocho” and the only disciple of Manuel de Falla, had received little attention from musicologists. This is the first study that analyzes his life in depth, and collects and updates the bibliography about his work.

Yolanda Acker and Javier Suárez-Pajares, curators of the exhibition and editors of this catalog, recreated the highlights of the composer’s career. Acker wrote a thorough biography, the chronology, the bibliography, and a selection of his recordings.

Pianist Guillermo González related his personal and professional relationship with Halffter. Excerpts from the conversations between Halffter and Andrés Ruiz Tarzona, and an essay by music critic Arturo Reverter on the composer’s ties to the Residencia completed this volume.
