Meditaciones del Quijote
José Ortega y Gasset

[2014]

Co-edited by Alianza Editorial, Fundación José Ortega y Gasset-Gregorio Marañón and Publicaciones de la Residencia de Estudiantes.

In 1914, José Ortega y Gasset’s first book, Meditaciones del Quijote, was printed in Publicaciones de la Residencia de Estudiantes, in charge of Juan Ramón Jiménez under the supervision of Alberto Jiménez Fraud, director of the Residencia, with whom Ortega shared the modernisation project of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza. In the text we can find some of Ortega’s main lines of thought, elementary insights and final formulations (like the famous “I am me and my circumstance”) which found in these pages both an initial and a radical treatment for his future work.

A century later, this edition is presented, which includes, apart from the original text, an introductory study made by Javier Zamora and an appendix of variants in which some of the differences among the different versions of the work are collected.
