This is the catalog of the exhibition celebrating Luis Cernuda’s centenary, organized by the Residencia de Estudiantes and the Sociedad Estatal de Conmemoraciones Culturales. It presents a comprehensive analysis of the poet’s life and literary career in four thematic sections. The first one, “Luis Cernuda, yesterday and today”, gathers the views on Cernuda by people who knew him and were influenced by him: Harold Bloom, Ramón Gaya, Juan Goytisolo, Carlos-Peregrín Otero, Tomás Segovia and Edward M. Wilson.

The second one is a thorough “Chronology” by James Valender. The third one, “Biographical chapters,” highlights the most relevant aspects of his poetry and his criticism, with essays by the main experts on Cernuda: José María Barrera López, Francisco Chica, Nigel Dennis, James Valender, Guillermo Carnero, Gabriel Insausti, Andrés Soria Olmedo, Bernard Sicot and Brian Morris.

In the last section, “Varied readings,” four experts, Luis Antonio de Villena, Jacobo Cortines, Jordi Doce and Antonio Carreira, write essays complementing the approach to Cernuda’s complex work. Reproductions of the exhibited works, a list of works and original documents, and a names index are also included.
