The catalogue of the exhibition Le Corbusier, Madrid, 1928. Una casa-un palacio evokes Le Corbusier's first visit to Spain in 1928 during which he delivered two lectures at the Residencia de Estudiantes. In these talks he tackled two questions -the architecture of residential houses and that of public institutions intented to serve as palaces for the community- which are still emblematic topics not only for the history of the Residencia itself, but also in terms of the birth of modern architecture in Spain.

This book gives a closer look at Le Corbusier's persona, as much admired as criticized by his contemporaries, and at his way of imagining a house -of inhabiting, in short, his idea of how the life of the modern man should be in his natural habitat: the metropolis-. It highlights Le Corbusier's many facets as a man -who is presented to us in this book not only as an architect, but also as a writer, painter, theorist and traveler-, which were not always well known by the general public. In the pages of this catalogue we discover little by little (thanks to photographs, sketches, letters, historical press and publications) the keys to understanding his thought process, in which concepts such as funcionality and utility prevailed, but were not at odds with the search for beauty.
