Viaje a las Islas Invitadas. Manuel Altolaguirre, 1905-1959
Edición de James Valender

[2005]

Coedition with the Sociedad Estatal de Conmemoraciones Culturales and the Centro Cultural de la Generación del 27

This book, companion to the exhibition at the Residencia de Estudiantes, purports to be the most comprehensive work on Altolaguirre as publisher, playwright, film maker and poet. With testimonies from his contemporaries and poets of later generations, this volume presents a thorough biography, essays on his intellectual path, his relationship with the theatre, film, and the visual arts, and his work as printer and publisher.

This monograph is the result of the Residencia commitment to Altolaguirre, not only as custodian of his archives, but also because he was a key figure in the process of recovering the Residencia’s historical memory, given his friendship with Federico García Lorca, Emilio Prados and Luis Cernuda, poets who lived in the Residencia. Altolaguirre was a binding force for the Generación del 27, and his periodicals and publishing projects deserved to be remembered.
