Coedition with the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas and the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha

Manuel Espada Burgos, director of the Escuela Española de Historia y Arqueología in Roma, has written its history to celebrate its ninetieth anniversary. The Escuela and its fellows were a point of reference and a link between the international scientific community residing in Rome and the Spanish scholars. It was founded in 1903 after a proposal from the Junta para la Ampliación de Estudios and Rafael Altamira to renew the methods to study History. The Escuela began its decline in 1914 and was rekindled in 1947 by the CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas). Martín Almagro, Arnau Puig and Javier Arce, have directed the institution during this revival. Lecturers and archaeological excavation campaigns are among its main activities today.
