The Institución Libre de Enseñanza, since its foundation in 1876, took special interest and efforts to recover the popular crafts, folklore, music and literature, and it was pioneer in the inclusion of music and singing in the school curriculum. The institutions which have collaborated in the preparation of this songbook continue to share even today this tradition, in which popular music has preferential place, and with this book they want to contribute to preserve and spread this valuable musical heritage.
