Zenobia Camprubí-Graciela Palau de Nemes. Epistolario, 1948-1956
Edición de Emilia Cortés Ibáñez

[2009]

With the cooperation of the Fundación Cajasol

This is the correspondence between Zenobia Camprubí de Jiménez and Graciela Palau de Nemes between 1948 -1956, 80 letters written by Zenobia and 40 by Graciela. Most of the letters are unpublished and the originals are kept in the Sala Zenobia and Juan Ramón Jiménez at the University of Puerto Rico.

This annotated edition includes notes about the letters, an introductory essay, and an appendix about the process that led to Juan Ramón Jiménez’s Nobel Prize in 1956. It also contains a chronological index of the letters and a name index. The correspondence reveals not only the authors’ personalities and their friendship that grew throughout the years, but also the admiration that both felt for Juan Ramón Jiménez. Both worked so that for the poet’s work would get the recognition it deserved.

The correspondence also contains many details about their friends and families, their lives in the universities of Maryland and Puerto Rico, the moving of the Jiménez’s house in Riverdale, and Graciela’s visit to see the couple in Puerto Rico.

Moreover, the letters are a clear testimony that the two friends prepared everything necessary for the University of Maryland to submit Juan Ramón’s candidacy for the Nobel Prize on time. He finally won, thanks in large part, to the effort of the authors of these letters.
