«Poco a poco os hablaré de todo»
Historia del exilio en Nueva York de la familia De los Ríos, Giner, Urruti. Cartas 1936-1953
Ritama Muñoz-Rojas

[2009]

Foreword by Antonio Muñoz Molina
Epilogue by José García-Velasco

Before dying, Ritama Muñoz-Rojas’ grandmother gave her granddaughter the family letters she had received and saved since 1936. "They are very valuable,” she told her. “Think about what you can do with them." She selected some of the letters and wove them into the story, "something like a novel in which the protagonists are also the authors.”

The story begins in the summer of 1936 and tells the life in exile of Fernando de los Ríos and the women who went with him to New York: his wife, Gloria, their daughter, Laura and his mother, Fernanda Urruti, the soul of this correspondence.

She writes almost every day, hoping to keep her scattered family informed of each other. Thus, letter by letter, this book will discover, beyond the historical facts, the integrity with which the family faces difficulties, their tireless work, their political thoughts, their longing for those who are away and their hope for a reunion that never seems possible.

For Antonio Muñoz Molina, who wrote the prologue, these letters are "a unique document, the most original and moving Spanish correspondence that I have ever read."
